Pseudo R-squared measures for Poisson regression models with over- or underdispersion

چکیده
The Poisson regression model is frequently used to analyze count data. Pseudo R-squared measures for Poisson regression models have recently been proposed and bias adjustments recommended in the presence of small samples and/or a large number of covariates. In practice, however, data are often overor sometimes even underdispersed as compared to the standard Poisson model. The de5nition of Poisson R-squared measures can be applied in these situations as well, albeit with bias adjustments accordingly adapted. These adjustments are motivated by arguments of quasi-likelihood theory. Properties of unadjusted and adjusted R-squared measures are studied by simulation under standard Poisson; overand underdispersed Poisson regression models and their use is exempli5ed and discussed with popcorn data. c © 2003 Elsevier B.V. Extension of the application of conway-maxwell-poisson models: analyzing traffic crash data exhibiting underdispersion.
The objective of this article is to evaluate the performance of the COM-Poisson GLM for analyzing crash data exhibiting underdispersion (when conditional on the mean). The COM-Poisson distribution, originally developed in 1962, has recently been reintroduced by statisticians for analyzing count data subjected to either over- or underdispersion. Over the last year, the COM-Poisson GLM has been e...
متن کاملGeneralised count distributions for modelling parity
BACKGROUND Parametric count distributions customarily used in demography – the Poisson and negative binomial models – do not offer satisfactory descriptions of empirical distributions of completed cohort parity. One reason is that they cannot model variance-to-mean ratios below unity, i.e., underdispersion, which is typical of low-fertility parity distributions. Statisticians have recently revi...
متن کاملUsing Regression based Control Limits and Probability Mixture Models for Monitoring Customer Behavior
In order to achieve the maximum flexibility in adaptation to ever changing customer’s expectations in customer relationship management, appropriate measures of customer behavior should be continually monitored. To this end, control charts adjusted for buyer’s/visitor’s prior intention to repurchase or visit again are suitable means taking into account the heterogeneity across customers. In the ...
متن کاملSemiparametric Inference Based on a Class of Zero-Altered Distributions
In modeling count data collected from manufacturing processes, economic series, disease outbreaks and ecological surveys, there are usually a relatively large or small number of zeros compared to positive counts. Such low or high frequencies of zero counts often require the use of under or over dispersed probability models for the underlying data generating mechanism. The commonly used models s...
متن کاملSpatial modeling of data with excessive zeros applied to reindeer pellet‐group counts
We analyze a real data set pertaining to reindeer fecal pellet-group counts obtained from a survey conducted in a forest area in northern Sweden. In the data set, over 70% of counts are zeros, and there is high spatial correlation. We use conditionally autoregressive random effects for modeling of spatial correlation in a Poisson generalized linear mixed model (GLMM), quasi-Poisson hierarchical...
